A LOFAR Transients Key Science Project meeting is being held in Amsterdam on 3–5 December 2012. This coincides with the start of LOFAR "Cycle 0"; a major theme of the meeting will therefore be to ensure we are best able to take advantage of the anticipated avalanche of data. Of course, we will also consider longer term plans and ongoing development. All Transients Key Project members and invited guests are welcome.
Schedule
The meeting schedule is now available. Presentations are available for view or download from there.
Registration & Costs
Registration has now closed and we are no longer accepting submissions of talks. If you have missed the registration deadline, please mail [email protected] and we will see what we can do to help.
Note that meeting participants are expected to make a contribution of €50 towards costs. This covers refreshments and lunches served during the meeting and the workshop dinner. Please be prepared to pay this in cash on arrival at the meeting.
Venue & Travel
The meeting will take place at the Astronomical Institute "Anton Pannekoek" (or "API"):
Science Park 9041098 XH Amsterdam
The API is easily reached by public transport from the centre of Amsterdam and from Schiphol International Airport. The API website provides comprehensive travel information, but please feel free to contact the LOC if you need help finding us.
When you arrive at the API, report to the main reception desk where you will be issued with a visitor pass. Take the lift to the fourth floor. The meeting room is immediately outside the lift, and will be clearly signposted.
Accommodation
The block booking at the Eden Hotel Amsterdam has now expired. We are unable to provide any further assistance with accommodation.
The Eden Hotel Amsterdam is located right in the centre of Amsterdam, about half an hour from the API by public transport. Maps and directions are available from Google.
Catering
Lunches and coffee breaks will be provided every day during the meeting; refer to the schedule for details (when available).
On the evening of Tuesday 4 December we will meet for a workshop dinner at Magazzino (Jollemanhof 19, 1019 GW Amsterdam). The restaurant is easy to reach by public transport: directions are available both from the API and from the Eden Hotel. Drinks are provided at the level of a third of a bottle of wine per head, plus still and sparkling water: if you need more to drink, please order (and pay for!) it yourself at the restaurant.
If you do not wish to attend the dinner, please e-mail [email protected] and let us know so that you can be removed from the booking. Note that we will not be able to reduce the registration fee for those not attending the dinner.
If you would like to bring a guest to the dinner, please let us know by e-mailing [email protected]. The price per guest will be €45. Places for guests are subject to sufficent space being available at the restaurant, to be confirmed on a case-by-case basis.
All of the above are included in the registration fee. Other meals or refreshments are up to you, but do feel free to ask the organisers for suggestions.
Remote Participation
It will be possible for project members to both follow the presentations and join in discussions remotely. For more information & instructions on how to participate, please contact [email protected].
